Knockaround sunglasses were founded in California by Adam 'Ace' Moyer during his time as University. Like so many small start-up eyewear companies that Blickers has posted about recently, Knockaround sunglasses began very small, (in Ace's art studio), but soon grew due to lots of enthusiasm and hard work.

Knockaround sunglasses were born from Ace's interest in fashion and design, and his love of the sunny, laid back Californian lifestyle. The result was a sunglasses line that, as the website states, is 'simultaneously practical and stylish'.

In a market dominated by big brands, the entrance of Knockaround sunglasses to the eyewear world is interesting in particular because of their unique distribution methods: direct distribution via the internet. Knockaround targets young audiences, and this method has proved very effective.

So let's take a look at the sunglasses themselves. The original model was based on the wayfarer shape, and was available in 8 bright colours. Over the years the brand has introduced more colours and models, as well as a Limited Edition series, and even products such as belts and bags.

Knockaround has also taken advantage of its distribution method and introduced a unique online shopping experience in the form of a Custom shop. This means that fans of Knockaround sunglasses can create their own unique looks by choosing the colours of the front frame and the arms, as well as the colour and style of the lenses and the look of the brand logo.

Knockaround sunglasses have also released a 'Bio-Based' model that is made from an innovative new plastic. The plastic is created from easily renewable, non-genetically modified castor plants. The models are strong, lightweight, and 53% plant-based.

What also makes this brand so incredibly cool is that the look of the sunglasses exactly matches some of the major styles of this season. The wayfarer shaped frames are colourful (read a previous post about this trend here), and they also do versions with mirrored lenses (below).
