Vintage and retro glasses Celebrities love to wear vintage sunglasses to make fashion statements. What they wear often creates trends that are followed by thousands. As this week has been all about vintage and retro sunglasses, lets check out who is wearing what.
Vintage is defined as ‘characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic’. My last post looked at the history of round sunglasses, and the evolution of this retro style. Before that it was about the timeless classic Aviator sunglasses, and their huge popularity over the years. No doubt these two styles can be classed as ‘vintage sunglasses’, but there are also other styles that are important. For example, cat eye glasses are a classic vintage style that are still very popular today. The same is also true for oversized glasses.
Wearing vintage style clothes, or, in this case sunglasses, is about turning to previous eras for inspiration. When wearing vintage sunglasses, people often either try and recreate the look of famous fashion icons such as Marilyn Monroe, or simply try and imitate the fashions worn by their parents or Grandparents. Anything goes with the vintage style, and it seems this is particularly true of vintage sunglasses.
- The smaller, round lenses of the late '60s - the John Lennon style sunglasses - are still very popular, whether with thin wire frames, or bold plastic ones.

- It is hard to see Aviator sunglasses as a vintage style, simply because they have been quite consistently popular for so long. But as they were first worn during WWII (see photo below), they can still be classed as 'vintage sunglasses'.

- One of the most popular styles in vintage sunglasses at the moment for women is the cat eye style. Here Marilyn Monroe wears them both as glasses and sunglasses, and many celebrities have since opted for this look to create a sleek, sexy, vintage look. You can buy them here.
