A new material has reached the world of fashion, the emergence of bamboo eyewear is already a fact. This material, when dry, is so strong that in the East it has even been used in the construction of bridges.

Although it is now easier to find these types of frames on the market, the first reference I've found to bamboo glasses is from the 1950s, in a design by Oliver Goldsmith called "Peru Bamboo”.

In 1962 this same designer devised an eyewear frame with several pieces of bamboo, each secured with small screws.

The two brands that most interest me at the moment in relation to the production of these types of eyewear are Waiting for the sun from France and the Austrian brand Rolf Spectacles.

In the former I like the freshness and youthful touch in most of their designs, while in the Rolf bamboo eyewear the main feature is the sobriety and artisanal simplicity that this creator brings to their eyewear. The two brands offer simple, original and yet elegant designs.

What do you think? Surprised?... I'm still looking for weird glasses! :D
